Genealogy in The Netherlands

Dutch roots. Finding your ancestors in The Netherlands, by Rob van Drie

Rob van Drie, Dutch roots. Finding your ancestors in the Netherlands (2012).

A comprehensive and recent guide to Dutch genealogy that also pays attention to online research. If you want a general Dutch genealogy book, this is the one you should buy.

You can order from the website of the Central Bureau for Genealogy in the Netherlands. A kindle version is available from Amazon.

I found a few other books (in English) on Dutch ancestors in The Netherlands, these are listed below. All of them are out of print, but maybe your local library has a copy. I found these books on the internet, I do not have them and I did not read them. They predate the web, so they will not have anything on online research.

If you know any other books about Dutch genealogy, please let me know.

Gwenn F. Epperson, New Netherland Roots (1994).

A guide to tracing your 17th century New Netherlands ancestor to his place of origin in Europe. Not restricted to The Netherlands, I think.

Charles M. Franklin, Dutch Genealogical Research (1982).

Listed as "currently not available" at Amazon. I have not found any information about the contents of this book.

Willem Wijnaendts van Resandt, Searching for your ancestors in the Netherlands (1972).

Discusses the Dutch records that can be used to find your Dutch ancestors.
